Lawrence J. Acker devoted the majority of his time in the practice of law to medical malpractice defense from 1977 until approximately 1995. During that interval, he successfully managed litigation and tried cases in both State Court and Federal Courts, receiving jury verdicts in approximately 75 cases. In approximately 1995, Mr. Acker began accepting representation in legal malpractice matters, representing individual Plaintiffs and Corporate injured parties. In addition, he began counseling law firms and lawyers regarding ethical issues, management issues, law firm management concerns, litigation, insurance matters related to law firms, and similar topics.

Since 1997, Mr. Acker has tried Plaintiff legal malpractice cases, to successful jury verdict conclusions in Oakland County, Saginaw County, Bay County, Genesee County, Lenawee County and several other out-state counties. In addition, he has managed legal malpractice cases in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the U.S. District Court in Denver, Colorado, the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., and State Court in Nebraska. To date, Mr. Acker has tried approximately 120 civil cases involving professional liability disciplines and is familiar with both State Jurisdiction and Federal Court Civil Practice.

Mr. Acker is also involved in Arbitration matters, having served as counsel for parties engaged in arbitration and as an independent arbitrator. Arbitration Award in 2019 – which spanned a 12 month period of hearings and multiple briefs, resulted in a total award of 1.2 million dollars in a real estate transaction.

Mr. Acker was appointed (although no longer active) as a Committee member of the State Bar Committee on Character and Fitness.

Mr. Acker has served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Gideon’s Promise, a non-profit organization domiciled in Atlanta, Georgia. Gideon’s Promise provides educational and community-building services for Public Defenders across the USA, enhancing the quality of indigent criminal defense work.
